Wild Planet Trust and Capel Manor College have recently formed a new partnership which will give one of Newquay Zoo’s keepers the chance to work towards a Keeper and Aquarist Apprenticeship. The course is being led by The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and will provide students with the chance to learn about the importance of adhering to best industry practice, law protocols and procedures in relation to animal husbandry, welfare, transportation and work health and safety.
Newquay Zoo is also currently advertising a position for a new Apprentice Keeper, the successful applicant will have a fantastic opportunity to enroll on this course and gain a qualification in their dream job. Both apprenticeship programmes will be starting in September and will be taught over a two year period.
As part of Wild Planet Trust’s ongoing partnership with the Cornwall College Group, Paignton Zoo’s newest employee on their Gardens Team, Robyn Harvey, will be working towards an apprenticeship in horticulture and landscape. The apprenticeship will include landscape construction and provide practical skills and knowledge as well as the perfect starting point to her career with Paignton Zoo.
Training Coordinator Carolyn Elson said:
“We are really excited to offer our staff new opportunities to learn and gain a recognised qualification through these apprenticeship schemes.”
