After an education at Millfield School, where a keen interest in sport was developed, Richard returned to Devon to help kick-start a family business venture in 1976. One of the food retail outlets grew to become the largest independent superstore in the UK and was taken over by Tesco in 2010.

He is a director of several companies operating mainly in the retail sector. Richard also has business interests in the leisure industry in the United States. Acumen Golf LLC owns and operates 2 country clubs with championship golf courses and a consulting company in the state of Virginia.

Richard joined the board in 2001 and remains passionate about fulfilling the Trust’s aims and objectives and he brings a wealth of business and financial experience to the organisation. He is chair of the Trust’s Investment subcommittee.
